Make a batch of this Cranberry Apple Compote for Thanksgiving. In only 15 minutes you have an antioxidant packed, naturally sweet side dish that your whole family will love!
With Thanksgiving just around the corner I thought I would share a healthier version of a classic Thanksgiving side dish, cranberry sauce. Cranberries are packed with a variety of antioxidants that have been found to have potential health benefits against cancer, diabetes, heart disease, and bacterial infections. Cranberries by themselves are very tart and therefore are often paired or cooked with something sweet.
Fruit, like apples and oranges are sweet on their own and pair perfectly with cranberries. So, for my healthy twist on cranberry sauce I used the natural sweetness from apples, oranges and a touch of maple syrup to make this dish no only full of flavor but nutritious. The apples help cut the tartness of the cranberries while the oranges come in to brighten up the cranberry flavor.
When all is said and done you have a perfectly healthy Thanksgiving side dish ready in only 15 minutes! And it’s a simple enough recipe that your kids can help prepare it with you. I promise your guests won’t be able to tell the difference and they may even like this version better. This compote also works great as a topping to yogurt, toast, or a leftover turkey sandwich.
