Looking for some breakfast inspiration for your toddler or even yourself?  Check out these Healthy Toddler Breakfast Ideas along with tips on what makes a healthy breakfast!

Healthy Toddler Breakfast IdeasWho’s toddler is like mine? Wakes up within minutes of having to get out the door to go to school. Or wakes you up asking for breakfast ASAP and you are still half asleep? Motivation to cook an elaborate meal.. LOW!

Breakfast is one of the meals I don’t enjoy spending more than 5 minutes putting something together. And I am guessing you feel the same! So I decided to put together a little resource to help you make breakfast a bit easier and have breakfast on the table or on the go in under 5 minutes. End result your happy (because hopefully your coffee is brewing or in hand) and your toddler is fed.

What is a Healthy Breakfast for a Toddler?

There are three components to a healthy breakfast

1. GRAIN (or starch)

Grains contain carbohydrates which help to give your toddler some quick energy to get them going in the morning. Many also contain some fiber which is great for keeping them regular and helping fill them up.

2. PROTEIN and/or FAT

Protein provides another source of fuel for your toddlers body. It is also helps to grow and build muscles! Because protein takes longer to digest in our stomach it helps keep your kiddos fuller longer!  Fat plays a role in improving the taste of food as well as helps with other processes in the body including helping to absorb fat soluble vitamins like the ever important. Like protein, fat also helps suppress hunger and aids in satisfaction (i.e makes food taste good!)

3. Produce (fruit and/or vegetable)

Fruits and vegetables provide a great source of fiber, carbohydrates and a variety of vitamins and minerals to help with your toddlers growth and development.

What if your toddler doesn’t have all three? It’s ok! Not every breakfast needs to be perfect. Don’t forget many common breakfast foods like yogurt contain a variety of nutrients like carbohydrates, protein and fat.  Also, remember there will be other opportunities for your child to eat in the day. If they don’t get a great breakfast pack something more substantial or varied for their morning snack or lunch that day.

To make coming up with easy breakfast ideas for toddlers even easier I created this  BREAKFAST Inspiration Handout for you (pictured above). Print it out and post it on your fridge for low stress, easy morning breakfast ideas !

Why you will love this BREAKFAST Inspiration Handout for Toddlers

  1. It will make deciding what to eat for breakfast each week really easy.
  2. You will have endless healthy breakfast ideas that you can decide on in under a minute.
  3. Oh you can also use this for yourself!

Two ways to use this handout.

  1. To help you make a grocery list. I recommend picking three grains, three proteins and three produce each week.  You may repeat a breakfast during the week but you can always mix and match. For example, you have waffles with almond butter and apple sauce one day and another is waffles with eggs and banana. You can even let your toddler help pick out what they would like that week. For example you could ask.. Would you like to have english muffins or bagels for breakfast this week? Would you like to have apples or bananas? etc. You can even get them involved in preparing their breakfast by spreading the cream cheese on their bagel or peeling their banana.
  2. To help you make quick decisions on what to make in the morning. Take a look at the list and pick based on what you have available in your fridge/freezer and pantry.
