Looking for a fun holiday activity to do with kids in the kitchen? How about these Easy Cinnamon Salt Dough Ornaments?!
These cinnamon salt dough ornaments take two classic homemade ornament recipes and combine them into one! I love the smell of cinnamon a Christmas time but the regular cinnamon ornament recipe calls for a lot of cinnamon, which I rarely have enough of. Instead, this recipe combines the basic pantry ingredients in Salt Dough with cinnamon to create an easy ornament recipe that smells delicious. And I bet you have all of the ingredients you need right now in your pantry!
These homemade ornaments are perfect for decorating your tree at home or giving out as gifts to family, friends or teachers. You can use the dough to cut out festive shapes or cut into circles and imprint your kids hand or foot prints. You can even decorate them any way you would like including adding food coloring, adding sprinkles before baking or painting with tempura washable paint after baking. This recipe makes for a great kid craft idea all year long. Cut out different shapes and decorate for different seasons and holidays. And added bonus your house will smell delicious all day long!
1.Measure out and add salt, flour and cinnamon to a large bowl. Mix to combine.
2.Add in water and mix with a spoon until mixed together and hard to stir. If too dry add another 1/2-1 tablespoon of water.
3. Place dough between 2 pieces of parchment paper and roll using rolling pin.
If making with multiple kids, can divide dough into smaller amounts.
4. Roll into ~1/4 inch thickness (the more even the better!)
5. Cut out shapes using cookie cutters.
6.Transfer cut pieces to baking sheet lined with parchment paper or silpat mat. (If using, decorate with sprinkles.)
7. Poke a hole in the top using skewer (to be used later for hanging ornament).
8. Bake at 250 degrees for 2-3 hours, let cool.
9. Decorate with paint, if desired.
10.Through the hole tie thin thread, ribbon or twine to hang ornaments.
