These Valentine’s Day Apple Slice Snacks are a healthy snack idea and fun way to celebrate Valentine’s Day with your kids or in your classroom!
Happy Valentine’s Day!
It’s hard to believe this is my little guys second Valentine’s Day and my 12th Valentine’s Day with my hubby. Yes, we have been together since high school! I can still remember my first Valentine’s Day with my hubby (at that time BF). He left me secret notes with a Heath Bar attached throughout the school. At that time heath bars were my all time favorite candy especially when it was in a Dairy Queen Blizzard! Throughout the school day I found notes in my locker, at the front office and on my car. Oh the good old days J Needless to say we are still together today and now get to share this special day with our little guy!
This year I decided to celebrate by having my son and I create these Valentine’s Day Apple Slice Snacks! The little guy has been getting really good at identifying hearts and loves using cookie cutters with play dough. So I thought it would be fun activity for him to use the heart shaped cookie cutter to cut shapes out of apple slices instead.
We decorated the heart shaped apple slices with yogurt and topped them with craisins, chocolate chips, chia seeds and sprinkles. You could do just about anything with these apple slices. Instead of yogurt you could use nut or seed butter and top with other candies, dried fruit or crushed nuts and seeds. Basically, whatever you’ve got lying around in your panty will work! The little guy had a fun time cutting out the apples and eating all of the toppings. He wasn’t too into decorating them, just picking off the toppings….
These Valentine’s Day Apple Slice Snacks would be a great activity valentines snack for the classroom or at home. You can even use this as a snack idea for just any holiday, just switch up the cookie cutter!
This activity is also a fun way to get kids to try new foods. Try to incorporate toppings that may be “new” for your kids or foods they are still learning to like.
